HOW DRONES ARE BEING USED TO DELIVER LIFESAVING HIV DRUGS TO REMOTE AREAS?

You might have heard that drones are used for military purposes, but have you heard that drones are also used in the medical field.  Want to know how? Here’s everything you should know!

Drones have given facilities in different domains. From the military field, photography, to mapping and medical, there hasn’t been an industry that’s left from the perks of drones.

Here in this blog, we will be discussing one of the significant usages of the medical field in the transportation of HIV drugs.

THE ADVENT OF UNMANNED AIRCRAFT IN KALANAGALA ISLANDS TO TRANSPORT LIFE-SAVING HIV DRUGS

As we all know, the treatment of HIV is quite crumble some. However, progressive countries like the United States through their cutting-edge technologies have made the treatment of HIV manageable to much extent.

However, not all countries have the wealth and the technologies to attain HIV Treatment. One of the momentous examples of such countries is Uganda that comprises over 1.5 million people living with HIV.

In sue to make the treatment of HIV accessible to everyone; Johnson & Johnsons has commenced a new-fangled program whose mission is to make use of unmanned aircraft to deliver HIV Treatment.

The company is making 22-pound unmanned aircraft to send life-saving drugs to the Kalangala islands of the country Uganda.

Earlier in these islands, wherein means of water transport like boats, yachts, etc. were used to transport life-saving drugs, which are now replaced by these unmanned aircraft.

The Challenges of the Location is No More Challenging

The Kalangala Islands are spread across Lake Victoria, which is also known to be the World’s Largest Tropical Lake. As these islands are surrounded by water from all sides, it was difficult to transport the medication facilities. However, with the advent of unmanned vehicles, the challenge of these challenging locations doesn’t seem tough anymore.

The History is Changing

Uganda has ever remained a country deprived of healthcare facilities. However, the Covid 19 Outbreak, the condition became even worst. The countries healthcare system was badly disrupted putting the lives of civilians at risk. However, the use of unmanned aircraft is making many things accessible that at some time remained out of sight.

More and More People Are Getting Benefitted

Drones are way faster than boats. Due to their massive speeds, the time that was consumed by boat to reach one spot, the same time is used by drones to transport life-saving HIV drugs to multiple locations.   Moreover, on one hand, where pilot drones were only able to carry 2 pounds of medication, the medical drones can carry more than 5 pounds of medication.

Getting Aid Back and Forth

Medical drones are not just used to transport the life-saving HIV drugs to the Kalangala Islands residents, but also used to transport the blood samples of these civilians in the return journey. These blood samples are taken to laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art tools and equipment.

FINAL WORDS

Technology has made our lives quite easy; the transportation of medication through drones in the Kalangala Islands is the perfect example. The initiative by Johnson & Johnson is quite appreciative and is capable of holding so many accolades in its name. Another thing which the program teaches us is that better healthcare facilities are not confined within the boundaries of accessibility. In today’s fast-paced technologically-prone world, an island that is surrounded by water from all sides can have better medication facilities than the city located in the plain area.
